Feeding Your Group

NCYC registration does not include any meals, but it is important that participants eat and drink regularly throughout the conference in order to maintain their good health.

You will want to remind your group members daily to be sure they eat and keep hydrated. A group meal is a great way to build community, therefore, you may wish to include in your package price the cost of a daily meal (or two or three) as well as a reusable water bottle. (The Indiana Convention Center has water stations throughout the facility where participants could fill water bottles.)

Making Group Meal or Catering Reservations

Breakfast

The most economical way to be sure your group members start the day off right is to choose a hotel that includes breakfast in the room rate. (The NCYC Hotel Block Spreadsheet excel icon lists whether breakfast is included in the rate and what type of breakfast it is, though you should confirm with hotel.) If breakfast is NOT included check with your hotel contact to see if they could cater breakfast for the group at a reasonable cost or sell "grab and go" items like bagels, muffins, yogurt, juice, and coffee at a kiosk in their lobby. If none of these suggestions are possible, know that a limited number of concessions will be open at the stadium in the mornings. Items may not be as affordable as they would be elsewhere, but they will be available.

Lunch

Concession stands will be open in a number of areas within the convention center from 12:00 pm-6:00 pm on Thursday and 11:00 am-6:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. These stands will offer an array of items including snack items, fruit, sandwiches, pizza, salads, and burgers. Indianapolis also has a large number of restaurants and eateries within walking distance of the convention center. Do not overlook hotel restaurants which are likely to be running meal specials during the conference.

For a really affordable option, consider packing lunches; participants could throw a bottle of water/juice/soda, a sandwich, piece of fruit, and a cookie or bag of chips in a brown paper bag on their way out the door each morning. Of course, someone has to get (or make) the sandwiches and other items and you will need a place for participants to assemble their lunches, but this can be a cost saver if the logistics can be arranged.

Dinner

FoodConcession stands in the convention center and the downtown restaurants and eateries remain a viable option for dinner either in small groups or, with advance planning as a group. In addition, a limited number of concession stands will be open at the stadium offering cold beverages and items like pizza, hotdogs, and nachos. Again, the stadium food will not be as affordable as food purchased elsewhere, but it will be available.

Late Night Snacks

Realizing that teens are teens and often hungry, you should give serious consideration to providing some kind of snack (or meal) for your group in the evenings when you return to your hotel. Snacks could be simple like fruit, chips, or peanut butter and crackers available in a hospitality area or more elaborate like an ice cream sundae bar set up in a meeting room (say, before or after evening check-in and prayer). Or, you could really go for it and deliver pizza and sodas to each sleeping room as you do your evening room checks. Whatever you decide, you want to plan ahead, budget for these costs, and be sure to either arrange catering through your hotel or clear arrangements for outside food with your hotel. You do not want to get caught unprepared.
