Clergy Support and Encouragement are Critical

Priests and deacons should not only encourage the youth and adults in their parishes to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference, but clergy should plan to attend NCYC with their parishioners!

Why Should I Encourage Youth and Adults to Attend?

The National Catholic Youth Conference is a great way to bring youth ministry alive in your parish. Youth who attend NCYC come home excited about their faith and ready to set the world on fire! Parents and chaperones come back from NCYC enlivened by their own faith and inspired by the enthusiasm of the young people.

Why Should I Attend?

NCYC is a great way for priests and deacons to connect with the youth in their parish. The shared experience provides an opportunity for you to engage in dialogue and build relationships with your teen parishioners. This positive interaction can have a lasting impact on the young people. The evidence is clear that young people’s experiences of faith are a direct result of adults who walk with them in faith.

Throughout the event, you will also have the chance to celebrate liturgy and hear confessions. Priests and deacons who attend NCYC and other large youth events often say they are encouraged and affirmed in their ministry by participating in the event and celebrating the sacraments.

How Can I Support NCYC?

Attend NCYC! In 2009, twenty-eight bishops and more than 250 priests attended NCYC in Kansas City. Even more are expected in Indy for 2011.

  • If you attended NCYC in the past, share your experience with others–especially other priests and deacons.
  • Encourage the pastoral leaders in your community to organize a pilgrimage to NCYC in Indianapolis this November. Support their efforts from the pulpit and with parish resources.

Are You Ready for NCYC?

Vocations Directors

The presence of over 20,000 Catholic young people gathered at NCYC is certainly a unique opportunity for vocations directors.
