Chaperone REsources

Adults who attend NCYC are given an amazing and blessed opportunity. They help provide an environment where youth can experience Christ and the church. Adults lead by example. Young people’s experiences of faith are a direct result of adults who walk with them in faith.

What Is an NCYC Chaperone? What Are the Roles and Responsibilities?

Chaperones assist their dioceses and NFCYM in providing an event that is fun and safe for young people. Specific roles and responsibilities will vary depending on the needs of a diocese or parish. Chaperones, as well as youth, are expected to attend all conference activities. The Youth Code of Conduct details the specific expectations of youth during NCYC and it is to be reinforced by chaperones.

During all conference activities, especially the dance and other recreational/social activities, chaperones should be available to supervise all youth. View the conference schedule.

NFCYM requires that chaperones be at least 21 years of age or older and appropriately screened and trained for service according to the diocese’s policies for youth protection. Chaperones are expected to follow the Adult Code of Conduct. Many dioceses have training programs for their chaperones depending on the unique needs of the diocese and the specific duties they need chaperones to perform.

Why Be a NCYC Chaperone? What’s in it for You?

Adults who attend NCYC consistently say they had a powerful experience and came away encouraged in their own faith. The commitment and enthusiasm of youth participants inspire parents and chaperones, and dynamic liturgies engage both youth and adults. Attendees of all ages relate to the messages of NCYC speakers and presenters.
